Having previously been here for drinks I thought I'd try the food, so decided to take my parents here for lunch on Friday afternoon.Generally the experience was ok. It served a purpose to provide lunch and the food wasn't bad, even though it looked a bit washed out.I chose the corn fed chicken breast on a potato rosti with wilted spinach and a mushroom gravy. The chicken was a touch over, which was a shame and the spinach was a nice accompaniment of green to a very brown plate. The gravy was too thick and the rosti was very dense. My father had the Atlantic caught haddock with chips (fish and chips). The mushy peas were like the more fashionable crushed peas, but needed more moisture.I would have preferred a sandwich with a side of chips, but they don't do sandwiches on the menu, which is a shame.

The staff were very welcoming, which put our visit here off to a good start. It's got a nice, bright, airy restaurant area, and everything seemed very clean, which is always appreciated but not always a given, unfortunately! The Coach Horses has a wide selection of guest ales, and I had a really great winter warmer (a bit on the pricey side). Food-wise, the only thing that seemed out of the ordinary was the grilled bream, which was superb. Couldn't fault it. Really very tasty. Everything else was pretty run-of-the-mill.
